who’s behind the fabric?

Hi, my name’s Michelle and I do everything behind the scenes at Violet Aster. I have been making things with textiles for many moons and am mostly self taught, apart from some technical courses and some expert guidance (washed down with buckets of tea) along the way.

Fashion as a means of communication has always been something that fascinates me, the ability to say so much without ever speaking a word.

I believe we all have our own style, one that is made up of personal experiences and preferences, something that is only special to you. Of course there will always be some similarities between us, and finding those shared stylistic choices can be just as exciting as finding your individual expression.

But we are not carbon copies, we are not made in a factory. We can’t all look the same and thankfully we don’t. Each and every one of us is unique, with perfect imperfections and I think that’s marvellous.

Alongside celebrating the uniqueness within us, I also hold the same feeling for the beauty in nature.

I have a deep love and respect for all life on this big round ball we know as planet earth, and do not wish any form of expression to cause damage or harm to anything, or anyone, who also calls it home.

Therefore, it goes without saying that Violet Aster is an ethically conscious brand that strives to use the least impactful practices and materials throughout production. There will always be something new to learn and mistakes that will probably need to be rectified along the way, but rest assured everything will be made from the heart and always with the very best intentions.
